PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Patrick has been investing in, advising and starting early stage technology companies for over 35 years beginning in San Francisco in 1988.

Before beginning his work in the financial services industry in 1988 Patrick spent several years working in local and state governments in Montana with an emphasis on economic development, energy efficiency and renewables.

Patrick started his career in the financial services industry beginning in 1988 by relocating to San Francisco from Montana where he began working as an Account Executive providing investment advisory services to individuals, corporate executives and early stage technology companies at

  • Morgan Stanley,

  • Merrill Lynch,

  • Citicorp, and;

  • Hambrecht & Quist Investment Banking (H&Q).

H&Q is where Patrick learned how to take an early or growth stage technology company from an “Idea to an Initial Public Offering of Stock (IPO)”.

This experience included participating in H&Q’s own IPO on the NASDAQ in 1996 when the company raised $56.0 million from its offering to the public.

Established by Bill Hambrecht and George Quist in 1968 H&Q pioneered the problem-oriented and research-driven approach in providing corporate finance and advisory services to the technology sector.

During Patrick’s three years at H&Q the company completed

  • 241 IPO’s for leading early stage technology companies within its focus market sectors such as Netscape, Amazon and Pixar with a total dollar volume of $13.9 billion; and,

  • 184 M&A transactions with a total dollar volume of $20.1 billion.

In 1998 Patrick left H&Q to pursue his goal of obtaining global experience in the area of corporate finance and advisory services by relocating from San Francisco to Istanbul TURKEY where he focused on early and growth stage technology companies in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

In Istanbul Patrick became the Managing Director of Corporate Finance and Advisory Services for Strateji Securities from 1998 - 2002.

At Strateji he led its focus on early and growth stage technology companies in Turkey and the surrounding regions and positioned it as the leader in this segment of the market.

This included organizing the first technology investment conference in Turkey in 2000 at the Swiss Hotel in Istanbul with 32 companies presenting to over 1500 participants from Turkey and the EMEA region.

From 2002-2005 Patrick led Is Venture Capital - the largest venture capital fund in Turkey at the time - as its General Manager with a focus on investing in early and growth stage technology companies.

Under his leadership Is Venture Capital became the leader in the venture capital market in Turkey and successfully invested $50.0 million in eight companies achieving an IRR of 23.4% during his tenure at the company.

In addition, in 2004, Patrick led the IPO of Is Venture Capital on the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) providing liquidity for its initial investors and additional capital to continuing investing in early and growth stage technology companies.

In 2005 Patrick left Is Venture Capital and with two other partners from Turkey founded Bosfor Bioscience Partners - BBP.

BBP became the leading corporate finance and advisory service firm to early stage technology companies in the bioscience industry in Turkey which included the sale of a majority stake in Monrol Nuclear Medicine to Eczacibasi Holding - largest M&A deal in the bioscience industry Turkey at the time.

In 2008, Patrick relocated to Lyon FRANCE to work as Senior Partner at Yole Finance - a business unit of Yole Developpement - with a focus on advising early and growth stage technology companies bringing to market the next generation of semiconductor devices and materials.

From 2008 - 2012 Patrick led Yole Finance to become one of the leading advisors in the world to early stage technology companies bringing to market the next generation of semiconductor devices and materials.
